⚠️ Important: If you rename a material or hardware item, existing BOM entries will still reference the old name and won't deduct correctly. After renaming, open the affected BOM entries in the History tab and re-save them from the Pricing tab to relink.

How to fill out the template

Required: vendor and name only. Everything else is optional.

To enter dimensions (width × length) instead of calculating area yourself:

Fill in width, length, and length_unit
length_unit applies to both width and length — use cm, m, inches, feet, or yards
The area will be calculated automatically on import

To enter area directly:

Metric: use start_dm2 and/or start_sq_cm (1 dm² = 100 sq cm)
Imperial: use start_sq_ft and/or start_sq_in (1 sq ft = 144 sq in)

Cost: Enter total_cost and leave cost_per_sq_cm / cost_per_sq_in blank — it will auto-calculate from total cost ÷ area. Or enter the cost per unit directly.

Weight & thickness: Enter one and the other auto-fills on import — weight (oz) × 0.4 = thickness (mm), and vice versa.

Duplicates: If a material with the same vendor + name already exists, it will be flagged and you can choose to overwrite or keep both.

⚠ Excel tip: Values like 4/5 in the weight_oz column may be automatically converted to dates by Excel. To prevent this: select the weight_oz column before typing, right-click → Format Cells → Text → OK, then type your values.

CSV columns: vendor, name, color, sku, cost_per_unit, unit, starting_stock, alert_at. Only vendor and name are required. Duplicate items are skipped automatically.

Patterns & colorways

Track your bag patterns and the colorways you offer for each. Use the Notes field in your BOM or Product to reference a specific pattern and colorway.

Storage troubleshooting

If you see "Storage is full" errors or your data won't import, use this to wipe only this app's browser data so you can start fresh or re-import a backup. Your .studio backup file is not affected.
